Guanabana (aka Soursop) showed up at my local smoothie stand today! I have a #storytime for you about this fruit before we go into the facts. Exactly 2 years ago tomorrow (funny how things come back into your life), I met a man who sold manufacturing equipment to pharmaceutical companies. We were looking to buy a capsule machine for our herbal blends and explained to him that we choose to treat ailments naturally after years of pharmaceuticals failing us. He flat out said, “Chemical companies own the world. Pharmaceuticals will hide one symptom, but deteriorate your body in 25 other ways.” Now you’re speaking my language!
He told us that 23 years ago, a doctor from Africa came into his office to purchase a machine. Before he left, he wrote down 2 words on a sheet of paper: B17 (in Apricot Kernels) & Guanabana (Soursop fruit). Both are potent anti-cancer foods ‘hushed’ by the industries that control medical education + treatment. 10 years later, a doctor from India came to him and mentioned the same exact two curative foods. The Indian man said, “If you can get either of those, take a little each day to prevent cancer from standing a chance.”
A few years later, the equipment machine man’s aunt-in-law was diagnosed with colon cancer. Right before chemo and surgery, she made the decision to go to Colombia for 3 months and try a natural route. Under strict supervision, she fasted on Guanabana fruit. After those 3 months, her doctor found NO signs of cancer and was in disbelief. Although we never bought that machine, I was meant to meet this man and hear his story.
So… WHAT IS GUANABANA?
This fruit-bearing tree flourishes in tropical environments such as the Amazon rain forest, southern Florida and Mexico. “Graviola” is the tree’s name in Brazil, while in Spanish-speaking countries it is called “guanabana.” It also goes by Brazilian paw paw, nangka belanda, custard apple and soursop.
The active compounds in Guanabana are called “Annonaceous acetogenins.” Research demonstrates that these acetogenins can arrest cancer tumor growth and protect your body from developing cancer cells. For example, according to a study published in the November 2010 issue of “Molecules,” the Annonaceous acetogenins in graviola slowed the proliferation of lung cancer and laryngeal cells in the laboratory. In another study published in the “Journal of Natural Products,” a compound extracted from graviola seeds killed liver cancer cells while leaving healthy cells alone.
On top of this, graviola is not just a cancer treatment. It has also displayed anti-parasitic, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antirheumatic and cytotoxic properties, according to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. According to a study in the Journal of Dietary Supplements, graviola was effective against SEVERAL parasites including Trichomonas vaginalis and Herpes simplex virus.
Naturopath Leslie Taylor, author of “The Healing Power of Rainforest Herbs,” notes that studies show Graviola has an inhibitory effect specifically on enzyme processes in cancer cell membranes. Graviola only affects cancer cell membranes, and not those of healthy cells.
“As far back as the 1970s, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) investigated the merits of guanabana, and discovered the stems and leaves of the tree were successful in destroying cancer cells. Inexplicably, the results [of the NCI research] were published in an internal report and never released to the public. Since 1976, guanabana has proven to be an immensely potent cancer killer in 20 independent laboratory tests, but as of now, no double-blind human clinical trials.” – Christopher Lane, Ph.D. via Psychology Today.
