Learn to cook new dishes with Local Roots NYC inspired by the season’s harvest in a fun and casual setting. Led by Chef De la Vega, creator of Randwiches and editor at large of Put an Egg On It, you’ll prepare dishes in groups with a glass of wine in a unique setting: a food incubator kitchen that is home to many of NYC’s small-batch food producers. Learn how to take the same set of ingredients and turn them into different dishes that complement each other to create a farm to table dinner which you will enjoy together as a group at the end of the evening. Participants will also learn basic knife skillls and will walk away with recipe cards for the night’s dishes, an opportunity to meet other like-minded individuals, and an immersive culinary experience. There will be only 15 available spaces.
The menu will be inspired by Chef De la Vega’s new book and Local Roots NYC seasonality and available items from their producers.
What You’ll Learn: seasonal and ingredient driven dishes and basic knife skills through hands on experience
Additional: Recipe cards, complimentary wine, farm to table dinner, $10 credit to use towards a future Local Roots NYC market purchase or event
Cooking Level: Beginner and Medium
What People Are Saying: “I learned so much at the Local Roots Cooking Club – it’s different than any other cooking class I’ve taken because of the fun people I met, the emphasis on who grew the ingredients we were working with, and simple, creative and approachable dishes. I prioritize good food in my life now because I’ve learned skills to make seasonal dishes at home and realize how much fun cooking can be.”
And another testimonial!
We believe cooking with local ingredients is a way to strengthen our connection with our food, farms, land, people, community, and culture. We hope you form lasting friendships at our cooking clubs and take the skills learned and the stories of our farmers back home with you. Most importantly, cooking should really BE FUN.
